Commuting. Whoever thought it would be missed. Or rummaging through the office fridge to find your lunch. We’d all forgotten the joys of such things. Our colleagues in Cluj rediscovered them just this past week when they returned to a shared physical working space. We came together on Monday, September 6th, for the first time in 18 months with not one but two reasons to celebrate.
For one, it was the first time since March last year in an office. Romania had enacted strict laws against congregating in public spaces to limit the spread of COVID-19, and Lola Tech had closely followed the government’s guidance on remote work. There are, of course, still safeguards in place - but being able to sit together in person once again is a great feeling.
The other reason to celebrate was that we have moved into a new office, situated in Cluj’s old town and within a stone’s throw of the city’s Technical University, from where many of our colleagues hail.
In the decade since Lola Tech was founded and opened its first Cluj office, we have worked in three locations around town, and it’s fair to say that our team is thrilled with the latest move. Set in a modern building designed to fit the aesthetics of the old town, and located in the centre’s car-free zone with ample bars and restaurants around, our new space offers a relaxed environment to tempt colleagues back into the office.
We look forward to sharing more stories from our Cluj base with you in the months to come. For starters, we’ll dig into the history of our new office - its foundations lie on top of Roman ruins. No biggie.
If you’re interested in joining our team, in the new office or remotely, have a look at our Careers page.
Lola Tech is proud to support World Ballet Day and sharing their empty office space with dancing talent.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, in common with thousands of other businesses, our team faced economic uncertainty. However, we’re a positive bunch here at Lola Tech, and we saw an opportunity in this crisis.
